Density Experiment with Oil, Water, and Food Coloring!

0

Today’s experiment is about density and color. Using salt, water, oil, and food coloring watch as we learn about density, and make beautiful color magic… before it turns all brown (lol).

This easy to do experiment requires, salt, water, oil, and food coloring.

Start by filling a cup or other glass container with water, then pour oil until it makes a half inch or so layer on the top.

Then drop food coloring in the top (Note: we probably did way too much food coloring, try less colors on yours and it will end up less brown.)

Then have the kids drop salt on the top, and watch as the magic happens. Then explain that the magic is actually the salt sinking and dragging food coloring through the layer of oil.
